Guide to Buying Used Drones (Tested on DJI Mavic 2 Series)
Due to the manufacturing complexities, research & development, and cost of production for drones, flight controllers, motors, gimbals, obstacle avoidance sensors, high resolution 4K cameras, these tools can have a huge markup! Many opt to buy new, but when done carefully, buying used drones can be a wonderful way to save money while pursuing your dreams or hobbies as an aerial photographer / videographer and drone pilot.
Nikon Z Series for Timelapse: In Depth Review
I've owned over a dozen Nikons over the past dozen or so years, and just sold my Nikon D750 and ordered a Nikon Z6 II. I'm expecting excellent and improved low light performance over the D750, which I felt was a really nice timelapse camera. In the spirit of trying to find some Truth, I want to hear everyone’s vote as to what they think is the best camera system for timelapse, and WHY. Here’s what I like about my Nikons, in each category of performance relevant to timelapse. I really like the new, 2nd generation of Nikon Z cameras (Z6 II and Z7 II), in this article, find out why!
Eternal Taj Mahal
After being cooped up inside for over 4 months due to the COVID 19 lockdown, on 5th September 2020, a photographer friend and I took a three-hour road trip from Delhi to Agra to shoot the Taj under the monsoon skies. The monsoon season is known to provide dramatic skies and colorful sunsets. We knew the Taj Mahal complex was closed due to COVID restrictions but were aware of this location a little further down the river which provided breathtaking views of the Taj and the River Yamuna
Waterfall Beneath the Stars: Sony a7s + Sigma 24-70
This picture was taken in Luxembourg at the Schießentümpel. It is a very beautiful area, especially for hiking. I decided to do a time-blending for the picture because it was a very stormy night and the trees and plants were completely blurred due to the movement.
Creative Long Exposure Photography
Long exposure photos of cars traveling along a road are nothing new. Many of these photos are taken at night when the lights from the cars are easily captured by the camera. It is much harder to capture those lights around dusk and dawn. The lights are not as bright and the shutter speeds in the brighter ambient light are usually much shorter unless you are using a Neutral Density filter to block additional light. When I set out to capture a long exposure photograph at this location, I did not want to wait until the sky had turned dark to take my photo. It was important to me that I incorporate the colors of the sunset into the photo. But, to do so I needed to overcome that challenge of the car lights not being bright. The solution was to take multiple photos.
Waterfall Hunting in Iceland: Mavic 2 Pro
On this trip to a waterfall in Iceland, I wanted to record a cinematic video of this amazing waterfall and place. In this location with the waterfall I first set up my camera and tripod to take long exposures, then I walked down the canyon closer to the waterfall and saw this sick opening in the landscape and thought it would be cool going through that space with my DJI Mavic 2 Pro while taking a video. I did exactly that and was really happy with the results.
Milky Way's Galactic Core at Tenerife: H-Alpha Modified Nikon D800a
Working with a focal length of 85mm was exciting and promising while the first test shoots revealed some extraordinary details of the galaxy’s dust lanes and nebulae. But if you work with such a sensitive and unprotected setup you never know how far you will get. With such a narrow lens you need many images to get a balanced good-looking Panorama - so there are many chances to mess up the whole project and go home empty-handed.

Cottonwood Pass, Colorado Milky Way
The objective for this image was to capture the curved leading lines of the road through Cottonwood Pass, bringing the viewer's eye up towards the mountains and the Milky Way overhead. The smoke from nearby forest fires covered the sky in a thick haze during the day, making it seem like the shot wouldn’t be possible. Luckily, the smoke settled into the valleys below the mountains as night fell, revealing a cloudless, starry sky. With the weather conditions looking perfect, we parked alongside the road and set up the tripod and star tracker. Every few minutes a car or two would come by and glide down into the growing darkness on the mountain pass.
