Stand with us in amplifying the voices of the Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation. Together, let's advocate for acknowledgment, cultural restoration, and the empowerment of indigenous communities.

CHALLENGE

The Southern Sierra Miwuk Nation currently faces the challenge of securing federal acknowledgment, a critical milestone that would unlock essential resources, aid, and subsidy programs for their community. This has proven to be a lengthy and difficult arrangement, despite being recognized by Yosemite National Park/National Park Services as one of the original tribes of Yosemite Valley.

We shed light on the impacts of tourism in Yosemite National Park, a region integral to the Miwuk community, and documented their federal march for acknowledgment in Mariposa County.

Framework Films set out to create a mini-documentary narrative that would raise awareness about the Miwuk Nation's struggle and garner support for their cause, while signaling to the Department of the Interior that their community is very much vibrant and active.
